I’m Jodi, and Here Is My Story

My Entrepreneurial Journey

I’m a true entrepreneur at heart. My experience includes many successful small business ventures and work-at-home opportunities (even way back in the 1990’s when working at home was just a dream). I’ve been a remote bookkeeper, remote self-made medical transcriptionist with multiple doctor clients, traveling notary, childcare business owner, online retail shop owner, and even published a book

in 2001. I was the proud founder of a virtual assistant agency started in 2010 geared toward relieving women entrepreneurs from the day-to-day minutiae so they could focus on what they do best and ultimately grow their businesses. What a ride that was!My virtual assistant agency took off like crazy, and my small business grew to a team of five. During that time, I found my true love, which was creating and implementing office and business efficiencies utilizing various methods such as automation, project management platforms, shared docs and other business software. Eventually, my little VA business evolved into an operations consulting company, and J Marvin Consulting, Inc. was born! I’ve consulted with multiple clients (to include speakers, coaches, leadership development companies, inclusive organizations, pharmacies, graphic designers, MBA students and occupational therapists), evaluating and implementing their workplace practices and was tasked with oversight over their working environments and processes, ensuring they were designed and kept to the best possible standards at all times so that the businesses operated at full efficiency. Today, I take on very limited clientele and currently contract exclusively with one client.

When It All Began

I was born in 1970 in Syracuse, New York to a wonderful loving mother (Alice) who was an amazing housewife and a hardworking father (Ben) who was also (take a guess) an entrepreneur. When I say this is when it began, I truly mean that. My mother was a hardworking, creative woman and housewife. My dad had the same business spirit as I do, starting up many successful small businesses throughout his adulthood to include a used auto parts shop in Baldwinsville, New York called Benwood Auto Parts, another (second startup) used auto parts shop in Fulton, New York, and several mobile home parks and rental properties.

Moving Across The Country

My family moved from New York to Arizona in the late 70’s when my grandfather enticed my father to move there as he thought they’d be able to pan gold. Our entire family convoyed 3,500 miles and 3 days across the US in a trip I’ll never forget. That “but it’s a dry heat” climate was a great time in my life. Playing outside in shorts and a t-shirt on Christmas day, catching lizards and scorpions. One day my parents came and took me out of school early so we could visit the filming site of Little House on the Prairie during an episode shooting. That was pretty cool.

High School & First Job

In 1987, I was a high school student employed at my first major gig, Wendy’s, although I had already been contracting out work before Wendy’s was even thought of. Yeah, I took on babysitting jobs like most young teenage girls do, but in high school I was the go-to for all the typing gigs, getting paid a dollar or two per page to type up various documents for teachers … and I loved every minute of it!

Fun Stuff

Well, I may not have been born with a bass guitar in my hands, but let me tell you, I’ve been making up for lost time! I wouldn’t exactly call myself a “bass god” just yet, but I am definitely a bass guitar devotee who started taking bass lessons in my late 40’s and started a band at the age of 50!

Some might say I’m a bass guitar enthusiast, others might say I’m just really good at pretending to play. But hey, I’m having a good time, and that’s all that matters, right? And who knows, maybe in a few more years I’ll be shredding on stage like a true rockstar, just like Victor Wooten or Bootsy Collins. 😉 Or maybe I’ll just keep playing in my garage band and making my neighbors wonder why they ever moved in next door. Either way, I’m having a blast!

DIY Hobbyist

Last but not least, I’m a major DIYer. I’ve been known to tackle some heavy DIY projects that all involve paint. ;)

I really enjoy finding ways to make a home (and of course, a home office) aesthetically pleasing on a budget. These things bring me joy.
